Windsor, ON—Cambridge United’s Men’s First Team headed down south for a battle

with Windsor City FC this weekend.

The first half saw no change to the score line, but Cambridge gained the advantage

on an own goal by Windsor in the second. Their one goal advantage quickly

doubled, and though the home team pushed late and were able to tuck one away in

the 91st, Cambridge held on to the win and made the long trip worthwhile by bringing

home three points.

Gander, Ferraro, Mun (Thamilventhan 45’), Brousseau, Marchant, N. Antolcic,

First Half

Windsor did show more of an offensive threat in the opening minutes off of corners,

but Cambridge responded quickly with one of their own. The play had its fair share of

time in each team's end as both sides pushed through the heat to look for an opener.

Overall, it was a quiet first half in Windsor with both sides having nothing to show for

the first half, remaining deadlocked at 0-0.

Second Half

Kaven Thamilventhan came in for Dylan Mun and Matthew Ciavarro for Gregor

McKeon. On a short corner for Cambridge in the 52nd minute, Colin Gander sent a cross into

the box. A Cambridge player got the initial header, but a Windsor defender—in an

attempt to clear the ball—put it into his own goal, giving Cambridge the 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later, Ciavarro gave Cambridge the brace on a ball squared across the

goal for an easy tap-in to put his side up 2-0.

Christian Ferraro picked up a yellow card in the 68th minute. Calum Heimbecker

came in for Marko Lesic to protect the lead in the 73rd.

Windsor pushed late in the game and were rewarded for their efforts in the 91st

minute, but it would be too little too late as Cambridge held on to capture the slim 2-1

victory down in Windsor.
