First Half
It was a lively atmosphere as the Wolves celebrated their home opener at their new
grass field. The momentum from the home crowd would help the Wolves pull away
early off a cross from the right flank delivered back post for a one touch finish,
putting them up 1-0 in the seventh minute.
Cambridge would not sit back, regrouping early and generating some dangerous
offence. Unfortunately, they struggled in the finishing zone against a physical Roma
defense.
In the 23rd minute, the Wolves were awarded a penalty with the chance to go up 2-0
early on. Cambridge goaltender Shae Mitchell would come up big, guessing right to
get her hand on the ball and keep the score 1-0.
Cambridge would find a few chances off the fast break and begin to connect well,
coming close in the late minutes of the first half on a pretty passing play up through
the middle on the build. The score would remain in favour of Roma at the half.
Second Half
Molly Owen came in for Hayley Mackie to start the second as the lights came on in
what would be an increasingly physical second half.
Cambridge attempted to push the pace seeking the equalizer, Ava Fraga came in for
Katie Halley for some fresh legs.
In the 62nd minute the Wolves capitalized on a passing error to increase their lead to
2-0.
The 64th minute saw Megan Voutour exit the pitch for Shenasia Richards as the
visitors looked dangerous in the latter half of the second, finding themselves in their
opponents box frequently.
Jordan Lunshof would replace Anastasia Kraja and Eva Parker would come in for
Kay-Lynn McCall in the 78th minute as Cambridge sought a final effort to put the ball
in the net. Unfortunately they would remain scoreless, Roma coming away with a win
of 2-0 to end Cambridge’s undefeated streak.
