First Half
Fountain Street Soccer Fields were the backdrop to a warm sunny day featuring a
tough battle between two division contenders.
Both teams pressed hard early on looking for the opener, but it was Railway City who
opened the scoring after a flurry of chances in the 23rd minute resulted in an error by
the Cambridge goalkeeper that put the visiting side up 1-0.
Railway would use the momentum from striking first, following the opener with the
brace in the 28th minute of play.
Second Half
Cambridge made only one substitution at half-time, Shenasia Richards coming in for
Kay-Lynn Mcall as the home team looked to put pressure on Railway City’s back
line.
The home side seemed to find their legs a little in the second, with good ball
movement in zone three and atop Railway City’s box, but could not find the net.
Railway City had an opportunity to extend their lead from the penalty spot in the 54th
minute, but would put it off the woodwork to keep the score 2-0.
With time running out, Cambridge made a series of substitutions with Ava Fraga
coming in for Molly Owen and Natalia Menjhart for Megan Voutour in the 64th
minute. Shortly after, Megan Heyes would exit due to injury, replaced by Mya Harris.
Cambridge continued to push relentlessly for a goal, bringing on Jordan Lunshof,
Eva Parker, Sophia Bruni, and Cassidy Hunt— the latter playing an integral role in
Cambridge’s last-minute equalizer when these two teams last met. Unfortunately,
there would be no dramatic ending for the home side this time around. Cambridge
remained shut out, falling 2-0 and looking to bounce back next week.
