While Cambridge looked like the better team for large stretches of the match, a pair of unfortunate breaks allowed Pickering to escape with a slim 2-1 victory.

First Half
The opening half was a tightly contested affair as Cambridge went toe-to-toe with the top team in the division. Defenses dictated much of the early play, but the physical nature of the game picked up as halftime approached. In the 33rd minute, Cambridge defender Cassidy Derry was assessed a yellow card following a hard challenge.
Despite a few close sequences for the hosts, both teams went into the locker rooms deadlocked at 0-0.
Second Half
The match burst open immediately after the restart, beginning with a tough break for the hosts. Just two minutes into the half, an unlucky deflection resulted in a Cambridge own goal in the 47th minute, handing Pickering a 1-0 lead.
Cambridge responded with excellent character and began controlling the pace of the game. Their efforts paid off in the 62nd minute when captain Megan Heyes delivered a beautiful corner kick into the box. Rising above the defense, Cassidy Derry executed a perfect header to level the score at 1-1.
Immediately following the goal, Cambridge made a double tactical substitution, bringing on Juliette Mann and Genevieve Morgan for Derry and Anastasia Kraja. However, just as the hosts gathered momentum, Pickering found a vital opening. In the 71st minute, the visitors were awarded a penalty kick off a challenge from Emily Porteous, which Carolina Grzesniak calmly converted to restore Pickering's lead at 2-1.
Cambridge fought relentlessly through the final 20 minutes, introducing fresh legs in Sophia Morgan and Shenasia Richards to hunt for an equalizer. While Cambridge pushed Pickering deep into their own half and created the cleaner opportunities, the league-leaders managed to hold their defensive lines until the final whistle.
