Cambridge Women Share Points with Burlington SC in Six-Goal Thriller

May 30, 2026

CAMBRIDGE, ON – Cambridge United (W) played out a dramatic, high-scoring 3-3 draw against Burlington Soccer Club on Saturday night. A wild second-half comeback saw the hosts storm into the lead, but a heartbreaking stoppage-time equalizer forced them to settle for a single point at Fountain Street Soccer Complex.

Cambridge found themselves facing a mountain to climb after conceding twice in quick succession during the first half. However, head coach Neil Wilson's halftime talk and tactical substitutions completely flipped the script. Cambridge dominated the early portions of the second half, scoring three unanswered goals to completely turn the match on its head. Just when it looked like the home side would secure all three points, a late-match physical battle and a cruel 93rd-minute strike from the visitors left things deadlocked at the final whistle.

Cambridge United Starting XI: Mitchell, Sauve, Beaumont (Chan 87’), Derry, Falkenstein, Porteous, Owen (White 46’), Kraja (Morgan 66’), McCall (Taylor 46’), Lariviere (Richards 79’), Heyes.

First Half

Cambridge struggled to establish control early on as Burlington struck twice in a four-minute window. The visitors opened the scoring in the 30th minute via Mya Newcombe and doubled their advantage in the 34th minute through Tyra Sterling, leaving Cambridge down 2-0 heading into the locker room.

Second Half

Looking to spark a revival, Cambridge made two aggressive substitutions immediately at the half, bringing on Abigail White for Molly Owen and Sydney Taylor for Kay-Lynn McCall.

The adjustments worked like magic. In the 56th minute, Sami Falkenstein found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Pushing hard under heavy pressure, Cambridge forced a critical mistake from the visitors in the 61st minute, resulting in an own goal by Burlington's Molly Palladino to tie the match at 2-2.

The home crowd erupted in the 68th minute when halftime substitute Sydney Taylor completed the stunning turnaround, scoring to put Cambridge ahead 3-2.

Wilson made further moves to secure the midfield, sending in Genevieve Morgan for Anastasia Kraja (66’) and Shenasia Richards for Annick Lariviere (79’). The match grew incredibly tense and physical down the stretch, with Emily Porteous picking up a yellow card in the 74th minute and goalkeeper Shae Mitchell receiving a booking in the 81st minute.

Kyra Chan was inserted in the 87th minute to help close things out. However, in the 93rd minute, Burlington's Kianna Logan capitalized on a rebound off a corner to slip home an equalizer, making it 3-3. Deep into added time (94'), Megan Heyes was booked along with a Burlington player as the frantic match ended in a draw.
