Oakville SC hand Cambridge United women third loss of season in close 4-2 road battle
Saturday, June 14th 2025
Cambridge United’s Women’s First team travelled to Oakville to take on Oakville SC
in their second meeting of the season.
Oakville would get the jump early, scoring within the first two minutes of play, but
Cambridge would be quick to respond, Megan Voutour and Anastasia Kraja putting
the visitors up 2-1 at half. Unfortunately a debatable missed off-side call and late
brace for Oakville would secure them a win of 4-2.

First Half
Oakville would get the early jump on the visitor’s, scoring off of their first entry into
Cambridge’s defensive third at the two-minute mark.
Cambridge would wake up a little, quickly gaining the majority of the possession and
offensive chances as the half went on. In the 18th minute, a good defensive play by
Ashley Blazek granted Cambridge possession in their own half. A quick combination
between Kate Halley and Kraja released Halley down the wing, the latter playing a
one-touch ball curled in behind Oakville’s back line to Voutour, who touched it past
the goalkeeper and slotted it into the net to tie the game at one a piece.
Another combination play through the middle down the flank would grant Cambridge
their second goal of the game. This time, Cassidy Derry and Blazek combined just in
over the halfway line, the former sending a ball over top into the box to Kraja. Kraja
took it neatly onto her left for a strike that sailed up and over the outstretched keeper bar-down,
putting Cambridge up 2-1.
Oakville would come alive a little towards the end of the half looking for the late
equalizer, but Cambridge would hold onto their lead heading into halftime.
Second Half
Cambridge held off on substitutions until the 53rd minute, when Annick Lariviere
came in for Ava Fraga.
Just two minutes later, Oakville found their equalizer. A contentious missed offside
call allowed an Oakville player to get in behind Cambridge’s back line and
one-on-one with goalkeeper Shae Mitchell.
Mounting frustration and exhaustion led to a momentary lapse for Cambridge,
opening the door for Oakville who capitalized on a corner to capture the 3-2 lead in
the 62nd minute.
With 65 minutes on the clock, Cambridge would bring in midfielders Juliette Mann
and Hayley Mackie, looking to regain control and find more of an offensive presence.
Oakville extended their lead in the 76th minute, once again from a corner. In need of
fresh legs for a late push to equalize, Cambridge introduced Natalia Menjhart for
Halley. With time running down, Jordan Lunshof and Mya Harris entered for
centerbacks Megan Heyes and Derry to get more bodies forward.
Despite numerous opportunities in the finishing zone, Cambridge struggled to
convert, falling to Oakville 4-2.
