Stormy night assists Cambridge Women’s win in London

Sunday, July 6th 2025

London, ON—Cambridge United’s Women’s First Team travelled to London for their

first matchup with FC London on a humid summer night. Cambridge capitalized early

with back-to-back goals that would prove crucial as the game would be delayed by

lightning after the first half and have to be shortened.

After a lengthy delay where both teams were sent to their respective locker rooms to

wait out the storm, Cambridge would come back out and manage the 2-1 victory to

leave with three points.

Halley, Bruni, Owen, Kraja (Hunt 78’), Derry, Lariviere, Voutour (Lunshof 58’), Heyes

Unused subs: Townes, Fraga, Harris, Araujo, Menjhart

First Half

Cambridge found offensive pressure early on, threatening FC London’s back line

with passes in the half spaces in behind their defense.

Anastasia Kraja opened the scoring for the visiting team to put Cambridge up 1-0 in

the 14th minute. Off of the build, a long ball from goalkeeper Shae Mithell was sent

in to Megan Voutour who did well to hold the ball before playing it through to Katie

Halley. Halley took it into the box and squared it across to a waiting Anastasio Kraja

who tapped it home for the opening goal of the game.

Not even a minute later, Katie Halley extended their lead to two after putting in a

rebound off of a free kick for the visiting side in the 15th minute.

London FC lessened the gap back to one off of a corner in the 32nd minute, and

after the flurry of goals time would wind down with Cambridge in the lead 2-1 at the

half.

Second Half

After a delay due to inclement weather, both teams entered the pitch to complete a

shortened second half. With the one goal lead and less time on the clock, Cambridge

looked to control the game and defend the lead as FC London ramped up their

efforts to find an equalizer.

Ashley Blazek would have to exit after a scary moment resulting in a knee injury,

replaced by Kay-Lynn McCall in the 52nd minute.

Jordan Lunshof would come in for Megan Voutour to add some extra height up top to

secure the ball off of the long ball and Sam Desouza would replace Hayley Mackie in

the 61st minute to help keep possession in the offensive end and relieve some of the

pressure on Cambridge’s defensive line.

Cassidy Hunt entered the field for Anastasia Kraja in the 78th minute, what would be

the final action for Cambridge who would outlast the clock and secure the 2-1 win

after an eventful outing in London.
