May 23, 2026

CAMBRIDGE, ON. – In an action-packed fixture Whitby FC delivered a clinical second-half performance to defeat Cambridge United Men’s OPL2 side 4-2 at Fountain Street Soccer Complex.

A wildly entertaining first half saw the two sides trade brilliant goals just minutes apart, leaving the match entirely up for grabs at the interval. However, Whitby FC seized control early in the second half, exposing gaps in the hosts' defense. Despite a resilient fight from Cambridge to bring the game within reach, late disciplinary trouble on the home bench and clinical finishing from the visitors allowed Whitby to seal the victory and claim three points on the road.

Cambridge responded almost immediately. Just four minutes later, in the 30th minute, Matthew Ciavarro leveled the score at 1-1 with a spectacular, brilliant long-distance strike.

Both defenses tightened up for the remainder of the half, sending the teams to their locker rooms deadlocked at one apiece.

Second Half

The visitors wasted no time asserting themselves after the break. In the 52nd minute, Jack Sears found the back of the net to put Whitby ahead 2-1.

Looking for an equalizer, Cambridge executed a triple substitution in the 57th minute, introducing Noah Medeiros, Evan Antolcic, and Matteo Grant.

The adjustments paid dividends ten minutes later. In the 67th minute, Kyler Monterroso scored to tie the game at 2-2, injecting life back into the home crowd.

The joy was short-lived for the hosts. In the 75th minute, Whitby’s Jack Sears struck again, scoring his second goal of the night to restore Whitby's advantage at 3-2.

Following the goal, frustrations boiled over on the Cambridge bench, resulting in quick-fire yellow cards for Head Coach Jon Morgan in the 75th minute and Assistant Coach Andrew Agyare-Tabbi in the 76th minute.

Cambridge pushed numbers forward but began collecting bookings, with Nikolas Antolcic cautioned in the 85th minute and Matteo Grant in the 88th. Whitby keeper Owen Schultz was also shown a caution in the 82nd minute for time-wasting.

As the match entered the 90th minute, Noah Carew capitalized on the gaps in Cambridge's defense as the latter pushed for the equalizer. With Whitby's fourth goal, the visitors secured the 4-2 victory.
