Cambridge Men pick up three points in win over North Mississauga

Mississauga, ON. – On the road, Cambridge Men’s OPL 2 picked up a crucial three points this Friday against North Mississauga SC at Mattamy Sports Park.

With goals from captain Nikolas Antolcic and forward Matthew Ciavarro, the visiting Cambridge side held on to secure the 2-1 victory.

Cambridge United Starting XI: Findlay (GK), E. Antolcic (Medeiros 76’), Ferraro (Nibogora 77’), Amaral, Ciavarro, Heimbecker, Poradzisz, Paton (Shaikh 17’), Brousseau (Kohar 70’), N. Antolcic (C), Dell.

Unused Subs: Jovivic (GK), Lesic, Alvarado, Moneterroso.

First Half

The match opened at a measured pace as both teams settled into the game. Cambridge made an early change in the 17th minute, bringing in Adam Shaikh for Landon Paton. 

The visitors found the opener in the 26th minute, captain Nikolas Antolcic giving Cambridge the 1-0 lead. They held on to close out the first half leading 1-0. 

Second Half

North Mississauga brought in fresh legs to spark their offense, securing the equalizer in the 52nd minute to bring the score level at 1-1. 

Cambridge’s Evan Antolcic received a yellow in the 56th minute, moments before Matthew Ciavarro  would give his side the go-ahead goal. 

With the 2-1 lead, the visitors brought in defender Saab Kohar for Patrick Brousseau in the 70th minute. To manage the game and hold on to their lead, they made a double substitution in the 76th minute, bringing in Noah Medeiros and Ank Nibogora for Evan Antolcic and Christian Ferraro.

Cambridge’s back line and keeper Jacob Findlay held strong late into stoppage time to secure the 2-1 victory and a crucial three points on the road.
