Cambridge Women battle to goalless draw against Burlington SC

Burlington, ON – Cambridge United Women’s OPL 2 squad fought to a 0-0 draw on the road against Burlington SC at Corpus Christi Stadium. Both defensive lines held firm throughout the 90 minutes to share equal points. 

TEAM

Cambridge United Starting XI: Mitchell (GK), Sauve, Beaumont, Taylor (S. Morgan 69’), Halley (Richards 79’), Falkenstein, Chan, Owen (McCall 65’), G. Morgan (Kraja 46’), Abraham, Heyes (C).

Unused Subs: Obelnicki (GK), Fraga. 

First Half

The match opened with tight, physical play as Burlington’s Kianna Logan picked up an early caution in the 12th minute. Both teams fought hard in midfield, but clear scoring opportunities were limited by strong defensive play in both ends. Neither side managed to break through in the opening 45 minutes, heading to the locker room at half deadlocked at 0-0. 

Second Half

Cambridge brought in Genevieve Morgan for Anastasia Kraja up top to begin the second half. The visitors continued to introduce new legs as the half waned on, with Kay-Lynn McCall, Sophia Morgan, and Shenasia Richards entering the pitch as they pushed for the game’s opener. 

Neither side was able to find the back of the net before the final whistle, both teams coming away with a single point to end the afternoon.
