Cambridge Men suffer 5-1 loss at Railway
July 19th, 2025
St. Thomas, ON—Cambridge United Men were on the road again, this time travelling
to St. Thomas for a battle with Railway City FC. In need of the three points to clinch
first in the Southwest division, Cambridge would hope to leave with the win.
Unfortunately, their second meeting would prove to be the contrarian to their first.
Railway capitalized early and did not let up, resulting in a 5-1 loss for Cambridge.

First Half
The home team went up 1-0 in the opening minutes of the match, connecting on a
volley from a long ball across and over Cambridge’s box in the 6th minute.
In the 32nd minute, the hosts extended their lead to 2-0 when their leading
goalscorer found himself on the receiving end of a through ball after a quick
transition from a defensive error in Cambridge’s back line on the build.
In the 41st minute, he struck again, this time on a header to put his side up 3-0.
Cambridge would manage to put one on the board before half’s end, Evan Antolcic
jumping on a rebound granted by the Railway keeper in the 43rd minute to make it
3-1.
Second Half
The second half saw three substitutions made by Cambridge, Landon Paton coming
in for Tristan Greenidge, Kaven Thamilventhan for Alex Amaral, and Matthew
Ciavarro for Dylan Mun.
Railway started off the half picking up a pair of cautions, the visitors slightly careless
as Cambridge surged to narrow the two-goal gap. Their efforts would prove fruitful
when Christian Ferraro found himself at the penalty mark with a chance to bring the
gap down to one.
Unfortunately for the visiting side, the momentum would hold fast with the home
team, the Railway goal keeper coming up big to shut down the division's leading goal
scorer from the spot.
Calum Heimbecker picked up a yellow in the 63rd minute and Gregor McKeon came
off for Harjas Sran.
In the 75th minute, Railway’s D’Andre Williams completed the hat-trick to put his side
up 4-1 with a volley off of a low drive cross in Cambridge’s 18-yard box.
Heimbecker would make way for Adrian Andrasic in the 79th minute and Matthew
Ciavarro was given a yellow card as frustration began to mount further for
Cambridge.
The official indicated that there would be three minutes of additional time and
Railway would use those final minutes to solidify a final score of 5-1, a ball through
Cambridge’s six-yard box finding the back of the net in the 91st minute.
Cambridge look ahead to their final regular season game at home against Roma,
hoping to secure the three points needed to clinch the division title.
