Guelph, ON—Cambridge United’s Men’s First Team travelled to Guelph for another
Derby Day matchup.

Ciavarro (Elezi 83’), Ferraro, Kohar, Paton, Thamilventhan, Brousseau, Romano
Unused subs: Ramsay, Andrasic, Mun, Greenidge, Heimbecker, Sran, Marchant
First Half
Heated game - spurned from a deep-seeded rivalry between the two teams. Alex
Amaral picked up a yellow card early on in the 20th minute. Guelph would capitalise
first, off of a freekick to put themselves up 1-0 in the 25th minute.
Minutes later the goal scorer for Guelph and Matteo Grant would each be handed a
yellow card after a late challenge by the former resulted in Grant’s teammate Landon
Paton going down hard after he cleared the ball.
The first half would end with Cambridge trailing by one, though they showed signs of
offensive threat consistently throughout the half.
Second Half
The second half saw no end to the intense atmosphere and aggressive play,
Cambridge United’s Paton, Luca Romano, and Saab Kohar all picking up yellow
cards in a span of ten minutes.
Their intensity would pay off, however, when Cambridge was awarded a penalty kick.
Christian Ferraro would step up and deftly put it away in the 65th minute to bring his
team astride Guelph at one apiece.
Amaral exited the field to make way for Gregor McKeon in the 68th minute and in the
83rd, Jone Elezi came on for Matthew Ciavarro as the visitors pushed for the late
winner.
It would come in the form of Evan Antolcic in the 93rd minute of play. On the
receiving end of a ball over top from centre-back Kohar, E. Antolcic took it in on goal
and found the far side upper netting to put his side up 2-1 in the dying moments of
the game, sealing the derby day comeback win for Cambridge.
